Belize Is the Perfect Place for Kayaking
It’s hard to think of a better place to enjoy some kayaking than Belize. A combination of year-round balmy weather and the largest coral reef system in the Western Hemisphere make Belize absolutely perfect for kayaking.
Even if you’ve never tried kayaking before, it’s a fun, easy, and safe sport that people of all ages can enjoy. After a quick training course, you can head out to explore one of the most eco-diverse marine environments on the planet. Along the way, you can look for stingrays, eagle rays, manatees, sea turtles, nurse sharks, reef sharks, and even a pod of curious dolphins. The waters of the reef are also brimming with huge schools of colorful fish, so you’ll never run out of amazing marine life to spot. And if you’ve brought along your snorkel gear, you can always hop in the water to get a closer look.
And there’s simply no better way to enjoy some “island hopping” than with a kayak. The reef is home to over 400 islands, many of them uninhabited with gorgeous panoramas and white sandy beaches, the perfect place to enjoy playing “castaway” for a day! Work on your tan, enjoy a bit of swimming, and, if you’ve packed a lunch, few experiences can compare to enjoying a beach picnic while sitting on your “very own” island.
Kayaking in Belize isn’t just about the islands, either. There are lovely lagoons, estuaries, and rivers that you can explore by kayak, too. Many of Belize‘s most pristine nature spots can be navigated by kayak, one of the best ways to spot some of the more than 600 bird species that have been recorded in Belize. Imagine seeing a kingfisher hunting for his breakfast, spotting a flight of scarlet macaws overhead, or watching a majestic Jabiru stork in action.
Visitors love kayaks because they’re absolutely quiet, meaning you won’t disturb the wildlife when you approach. Kayaks, of course, are also 100 percent “green” technology, so your presence won’t be harming the environment. And when you’re out there in the fresh air and sunshine, you’ll be getting quite a nice workout, too. All in all, kayaks let you be the captain of your own adventures and set course wherever your heart desires.
