1. Snorkel Belize’s Pristine Waters
A “must do” is the Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley which is located just 5 miles south of the town of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye; this amazing area of reef is protected and simply explodes with colourful corals and teeming marine life.

2. Dive or snorkel Belize’s Great Blue Hole
If you are an avid diver or snorkeler, then this is bragging rights for your “bucket list.” Marked as a United Nations World Heritage Site and a part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, this submerged sinkhole lies about 70 miles offshore and is easily accessible by boat.
It teems with marine life and among them the bull & hammerhead sharks roam; this natural attraction is like non-other!

3. Climb atop an Ancient Maya Ruin
The climb will be worth it! Breath-taking views await you at the top of each pyramid and the history of their civilization will be sure to amaze you. Stand where the Rulers stood and imagine a period of rich culture, rituals, ceremonies and sacrifices.

Most popular and accessible ruins are Altun Ha, Xunantunich & Cahal Pech- positioned within a few miles of major cities & towns. Others like Lamanai & Caracol offer a most adventurous day trip to visit each.

4. Explore the Maya Underworld: Caves!
Brace yourself for a mindboggling experience! The ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal) is a must. Famous for its turquoise water crossing through an hourglass like entrance- this system features beautiful formations, Maya ceremonial spots and the final resting place of the Crystal Maiden.

5. Get Local
Plan a trip to one of the country’s off-the-beaten path locations.
Hopkins for instance, is a Garifuna village on Belize’s southern coastline that will expose your senses to raw culture. You’ll taste locally prepare dishes of beaten plantains, a concoction of coconut milk and delicately steamed or fried fish. Your feet will shuffle to the drumming and you’ll make new friends with the locals.

Another spot to visit is the village of San Antonio, Cayo, just a few miles from downtown San Ignacio. This traditional Maya village will take you back in time with their practices. Make hand-made corn tortillas or tamales with a Maya woman or even try your hand making clay based Mayan souvenirs! Visit the home of a Shaman and take home colourfully memories to last you a lifetime!
