On Sunday, December 2, 2018, the Discovery Channel will be broadcasting live from a remote spot off the coast of Belize. This special program will air live between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. (Eastern time) direct from the watery depths of the famous Blue Hole of Belize.

The Discovery Channel will be broadcasting live from Belize as a team of scientists use advanced underwater vehicles to attempt to create the first complete map of this mysterious natural phenomenon. One of the lead scientists on the project is Fabien Cousteau, the grandson of the French marine biologist Jacques Cousteau who led the first and so-far only mapping expedition of the Blue Hole of Belize in 1971.

Also amongst the crew will be legendary British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson who has announced his intention to pilot one of the submarines himself. The expedition will also be conducting environmental research, including taking water and soil samples to better understand the ecology in the area as well as use military-grade sonar to create a detailed three-dimensional map of the Blue Hole.

The Blue Hole of Belize is the largest sinkhole in the world. Measuring some 1,000 feet (300 meters) across and 400 feet (125 meters) deep, the Blue Hole is easily visible from low-earth orbit. Almost perfectly circular on the surface, the Blue Hole is, essentially, a huge flooded cave system created by rising waters more than 150,000 years ago. The low visibility in the Blue Hole and complexity of the cave system have made the Blue Hole a source of fascination for divers from around the world.

The expedition hopes to demonstrate how advances in technology since 1971 can provide a more thorough mapping of the Blue Hole as well as spark interest in the importance of https://junglefitnessoc.com/accutane-for-sale/ a healthy marine environment. The team will be using latest-generation vehicles provided by Aquatica Submarines, and the company’s CEO will also be at the helm of one of the vehicles during the Discovery Channel broadcast. The live broadcast from Belize will be entitled Discovery Live: Into the Blue Hole and is being jointly produced by INE, Impossible Works, and Discovery Studios. The broadcast will be hosted by marine biologist Luke Tipple and Chris Jacobs.
