There are many good reasons to visit Belize at Easter. This is an important holiday in Belize, not only because it’s a four-day weekend but also because it’s a time of deep spiritual reflection for many Belizeans. That reflection ends in a weekend of parties that you don’t want to miss.
Why should you visit Belize in Easter? First off, the weather is perfect. This is when you’ll see Belize at its springtime best. The tropical flowers are blooming and the jungle is alive with color. You’ll see tropical birds and hummingbirds everywhere.
Second, it’s a wonderful time to experience some great Belizean traditions. Most Belizeans are Christian, so Easter is an important day. Many shops and offices are closed, and most people take four days off of work.

Holy Saturday is reserved for that other great tradition, namely, bicycle racing. Belizeans are bicycle crazy, and Saturday of Easter weekend is always reserved for the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycle Race, a tough 140-mile race that brings in some of the toughest competitors from neighboring Guatemala and Mexico in addition to local cyclists.
Easter Sunday is reserved for mass, family time and celebrations on the beach. Many towns hold festivals and beach parties on Easter.
If you want to celebrate the religious side of Easter, you can go to mass at one of many Christian churches or the Good Friday evening mass held at the chapel in Benque Viejo del Carmen. This mass is followed by a colorful Easter procession.
Don’t forget the many parties going on all Easter weekend. Almost every restaurant, bar and nightclub has Easter weekend parties going on. You can find beach barbecues, fancy cocktail hours or anything in between.
