Sun Country to Start Flying to Belize from Minneapolis-St. Paul

Beginning on Saturday, December 22, 2018, and continuing every Saturday throughout the winter season until April 20, 2019, low-cost airline Sun Country will be flying to Belize for the first time ever from its hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Sun Country, which is based in Minnesota, offers flights to 70 warm-weather destinations, including Belize. The new Minneapolis-St. Paul (code: MSP) route to Belize City (code: BZE) will take around five hours, and the new route makes Minneapolis the 10th city in America to offer non-stop service to Belize. Canadian airlines Air Canada and WestJet also offer flights from Calgary and Toronto. With Southwest, United, Delta, and American Airlines all busy competing for the lucrative Belize travel market, it is now easier than ever for residents of the Upper Midwest to enjoy a vacation in balmy Belize.

The announcement from Sun Country comes on the heels of other announcements from rival airlines about new flights to Belize. Aeromexico, the largest airline in Mexico, will begin flying twice a week from its hub in Mexico City to Belize, marking the first time that it will be offering service to Belize. And WestJet has just announced that it will be adding two new flights per week from Calgary and Toronto. And COPA Airlines, the flag carrier of Panama, has just signed a new interline agreement with Belize’s own Tropic Air that will allow COPA passengers to buy one ticket and not have to recheck their luggage for onward journeys in Belize.

Belize is a peaceful, democratic country located on the Caribbean coast of Central America between Mexico and Guatemala. As the only English-speaking nation in the region, Belize is very accessible to visitors from North America. Belize is primarily a rural country that is famous for its pristine rainforests and vast jungles teeming with exotic flora and fauna. Popular activities in Belize include snorkeling, diving, cave tubing (using an inflatable inner tube to float down underground rivers), visiting animal refuges, and climbing to the tops of ancient Maya pyramids and palaces.
