Sun Country Begins Flying to Belize This December
Sun Country Airlines has now joined American, Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines in becoming another major U.S. carrier to fly non-stop to Belize. Starting on Saturday, December 22, 2018, and continuing throughout the winter season until April 20, 2019, Sun Country Airlines will fly non-stop between Minneapolis/St. Paul (airport code: MSP) to the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City (airport code: BZE).
Flying time between Minneapolis and Belize City is just four hours and 25 minutes, giving residents of Minnesota and the Upper Midwest an easy way to escape the winter blues and enjoy a vacation in sunny, tropical Belize. The new Sun Country Airlines flight will operate solely on Saturdays, departing from Minneapolis at 7:05 a.m. and arriving in Belize City at 11:30 a.m. Flights departing Belize City will depart at 12:30 p.m. and arrive back in Minneapolis at 4:55 p.m. The new Belize City flight is part of Sun Country’s expansion into providing new routes to top vacation destinations in the Caribbean.
Last week on Sunday, December 2, 2018, the Discovery Channel broadcast an unprecedented live program direct from the bottom of the Great Hole of Belize. Measuring more than 400 feet (125 meters) deep and 1,000 feet (330 meters) across, the Great Hole of Belize is one of the country’s most recognizable natural landmarks and a top attraction for scuba divers from around the world. The Discovery Channel broadcast documented an all-star scientific team as they attempted to map and video record the entirety of the Great Hole.
Scuba diving and snorkelling are both popular activities in Belize, but there are plenty of other exciting adventures to be had in this wonderful country. Attractions on the mainland include exploring ancient Maya cities, hiking through national parks, birdwatching, horseback riding, and swimming in the base of jungle waterfalls. Other more adrenaline-fueled options include zip lining, rappelling, and cave tubing (floating down underground rivers that pass through vast cave systems).
Belize is a small, English-speaking Caribbean country located just south of Mexico and is home to a diverse medley of cultures, including the Creole, Garifuna (Afro-Caribbean), Mestizos, German-speaking Mennonites, and the living descendants of the ancient Maya.
