Long before chocolate was a sweet treat eaten across the world, the ancient Maya living in what is now Belize were experts in crafting chocolate drinks and dishes. Today, one of the most exciting festivals in the country is the big Chocolate Festival held every year in and around the town of Punta Gorda in Belize's southern Toledo District.

The summer season officially kicks off in June with several lobster festivals held around the country. Islands like Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker along with coastal communities like Placencia celebrate the opening of lobster season with multi-day festivals featuring a delicious assortment of culinary delights made from the world's favorite crustacean.

Belize came in at number 10 on the prestigious Fodor's Go List for 2018. Belize was singled out as a "true getaway" that is full of beautiful, untouched nature and pristine landscapes.

Starting in October 2016, low-cost air carrier WestJet has been flying to the Philip S. W. Goldson Airport in Belize (code: BZE) from Toronto (code: YYZ). The weekly service continued throughout the 2016/17 winter season and was a tremendous success for the airline, so much so that they have made the Toronto-Belize route permanently.

On July 23, 2017, WestJet announced via its website that it will be offering three new routes to Central America this winter, including a new non-stop route from Calgary, Alberta (YYC) to Belize City (BZE) that will begin on November 3, 2017.

On June 25, 2017, Time Magazine published a video on its Facebook social media account that listed seven amazing trips that travelers should enjoy in their 30s, including Belize.

Instead of states or provinces, Belize is divided into six different districts. The Cayo District of Belize is the biggest district in the country and compromises the central and western part of the country, including the border crossing with Guatemala.
